This video was inspired by the video "Stealing Beauty" by Guy Ben-Ner. In "Stealing Beauty", Ben-Ner uses various Ikea stores to film a sitcom with his family. The sets used for this sitcom are model rooms which showcase the Ikea furniture, but are not meant to be accessed by the public. In this way, Ben-Ner is questioning the function of this space and the public versus private elements of this space. In my video, "Point of View", I am questioning how a camera can function and be accessed by the public. In this video, I present two elements: still images taken on my camera and a video recorded while I was operating the camera. The still images provide a subjective view of the space I was shooting, through how I chose to photograph the scene. The video provides an objective view of the space, as I made no efforts to control what the camera was filming. This video also examines how the role of the camera can change dramatically, from a producer of fine art to a tool that can constantly monitor the world around us.
